Ha ha ha ho ha!

Ok - so it has been 85 days since my last post. Bad me. So here's some funny to help you on the road to forgiving me.

A note: I'm not about to say that these things are the dreaded "NSFW" (Not Safe for Work, for the uninitiated), but sometimes the sense of humor of others may not exactly align - so just be aware.

Link #21 - www.xkcd.com - This is kind of the 'king' of the mainstream webcomics. I believe they release a new one every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They're kind of the satirical, ironic sort.

Link #22 - www.jimgaffigan.com - Ok, so this site is for a specific comedian, Jim Gaffigan. This guy is hilarious, no doubt. He's appeared in shows like Flight of the Conchords and That 70's Show. He's got his own material and is often found on Comedy Central. For a quick taste of his humor, head on over to Youtube to see his take on Hot Pockets.

Ok - so that's all I've got for now, because everything else I look for is too crass for my tastes. Besides, the funniest things are on places like YouTube and the like.

Happy har-har-ing.

Food. Tasty, tasty, food.

I started to write a post about how to combat boredom with fun things on the web, but then it got ignored because I was hungry. Then, tonight, I made a very interesting meal, and decided to post about food. I think cooking is a lot of fun, and totally manly.

Link #18 - www.recipezaar.com - This site is particularly good, because if you click on the link on the front that says "Choose from 300,000+ member-contributed recipes", you can choose just the ingredients, type of dish, preparation time, etc., and it narrows down the recipes. VERY useful to me.

Link #19 - www.epicurious.com - Home of the spaghetti squash recipe I made tonight (which was quite tasty), this too has great recipes. Between this and RecipeZaar, there are few things you could want that you cannot find.

Link #20 - www.foodnetwork.com - Who doesn't like the Iron Chef? Marina came up with the idea to have an Iron Chef party, and someday, we're totally doing it. In the meantime, you can always check out all the Food Network has to offer.

Tunes

This time around, I've got just a few links for music. I generally like to post items that are free here, so I might break that rule this time. Here goes, though!

Link #15 - www.pandora.com - Pandora Radio is probably one of the best offerings out there for internet radio. It is based off of The Music Genome Project. It's pretty awesome - and free.

Link #16 - www.xmradio.com - XM/Sirius is satellite radio. If you get a subscription you can also listen online. We just got a deal for $77 for a year, so we're pretty excited to have this for long road trips.

Link #17 - www.last.fm - This is a social music site. You can get recommendations, see what people listen to, etc.

Happy Listening!

Politics

As I was watching the 3rd and final Presidential debate this evening, it dawned on me; the media has so much bias, its nearly impossible to tell what is slant and what is fact.  So, I went on the hunt.  The following are sites that are as close to non-biased as I could find in the 5 minutes I spent on aforementioned hunt.

Link #10 - www.factcheck.org - This site is a 'non-partisan, non-profit' organization aimed at reducing political bias in the media.  Seems good so far!

Link #11 - www.realclearpolitics.com - I like this site for its statistical data.  Has a large amount of studies, polls, etc.  It gives you a great 'current state of affairs' especially for the polls.  I intend to monitor this site carefully on November 4.

Link #12 - www.fivethirtyeight.com - Named after the quantity of electors in the electoral college, this site is run by a guy out of Chicago.  Worth a look!

And just for those that like to stir the pot, here are some of the more biased media outlets:

Link #13 - www.hotair.com - Right leaning, caters directly to conservatives.

Link #14 - www.huffingtonpost.com - Notoriously Left leaning.  Get your Obama sticker today!

Now, get out there and vote!

Reference Stuff

If you've ever had to write a paper since..oh...the year 1997, the internet is a valuable tool. Here are some of my favorite reference sites that have tons of information. Don't forgot the random tidbits that can fill your mind with useless knowledge. That's really the best kind of knowledge.

Link #7 - www.refdesk.com - This site has access to most anything; if it isn't on their site, they'll point you the right direction.

Link #8 - www.dictionary.com - Who doesn't love this? I'm going to make special sunglasses that let you see this site from the inside of the lens, and then distribute them to all the aspiring spelling bee winners.

Link #9 - www.wikipedia.org - Kind of obvious, but hey....its Wikipedia!

And here are some random links - to find out what they are, click!

Alligator dentist is the hardest job in the world.

Computer Stuff

I get computer questions all the time, so I am going to post some links to some of my favorite computer related sites.

Link #4 - www.filehippo.com - This site has tons of free software, and it isn't overloaded with ads, you don't have to register, etc. It is kind of a one stop shop for me when I am installing new systems.

Link #5 - update.microsoft.com - Love Microsoft or hate it, most of us use it. This site will update your Windows machine to keep it up to date and as secure as Microsoft can get it.

Link #6 - www.google.com - It turns out Google is so much more than a search engine. Lots of services and products at this page.

Happy Computing!

Links of the day!

So as part of this blog of mine, I'm going to be posting links to interesting sites on the web.  Places you can go to learn, waste time, spend money, get free stuff, or just peruse.  I'm going to try and keep it to the interesting stuff.

Link #1 - www.hulu.com - Lots of free TV/Movies.  It's even legal because it is owned and licensed by NBC and NewsCorp!  Woohoo!

Link #2 - www.digg.com - People find interesting things and 'digg' them for others to see.  Because it is a community of sorts, there are interesting themes.  You'll find the site to be quite liberal. Generally things are clean, but just make sure to read the details before clicking!

Link #3 - www.darkroastedblend.com - Kind of like ListVerse, but a bit more broad in its scope.  Has lots of interesting tidbits.  Or, as I like to call them, snippets!

Enjoy!
